Goal: Ironman Canada
Days until race: 1 months and counting
The big day is just one month away now. Yikes! The day I have been training for now for 12 months is just around the corner, and training is starting to ease off.
So, the question I seem to ask myself every day is, “Am I ready?”
Well, considering my injury, I think it would be fair to say my goals have changed since I first clicked the “register” button. I realize now that completing the course in 14 hours with a fractured foot would be impossible, but am I still planning to complete the course in the 17 hours allotted? Yes!
Leading up to previous events I have always relied on feeling race ready and physically capable. Not being able to run for the past eight-plus weeks has meant that while I feel quite confident about the swim – although the aggression that goes with any triathlon swim always makes me nervous – as well as my bike, having put the hours in on my road bike, my Cascade Fluidpro Bike Trainer and my Cascade CMXPro Power Exercise Bike, I realize that even if my foot healed in the next few weeks I would never be marathon ready.
Interestingly, however, for the first time in the lead up to a triathlon race, I feel mentally prepared. Come hell or high water I am going to do this, and I am going to try my best to complete it. I feel that being able to complete this race will be down to willpower, and making sure I eat enough to sustain me through the day.
Am I excited? Incredibly! Am I nervous? Very much so!
So many friends have booked the day off to come and support me, and so not only am I doing this for me but for them and all those that have supported me, including Cascade Bike Trainers. For all your support and all your kind words…guys, this race is for you.
